Why does the Contender Asia promote a kickboxing fight instead of boxing - like the original Contender series?
It takes place in Thailand, and in Thailand, the main sport/martial art is Muay Thai, which is similar to kickboxing. The contender wanted to do something that originated in that region, and Muay Thai is close to boxing.
